When I look at how we function as a society today, our belief system is at a pinnacle for change. The world isn’t even close to what it was 10 to 15 years ago. So much is happening at a rate that is moving faster than what’s imaginable and quicker than we are able to comprehend. Nowadays I find us on information overload, where information that we have been privileged to know has come to us before we are truly able to understand it. We are living in times where we are bombarded with content and information that’s consistently changing; trending topics that sway public opinion, influencing the rhetoric that is spewed at one another for the purposes of egotistical baiting. Whether you choose to bite your tongue or speak your peace, you are in some way affected by one of many social revolutions happening today.
We are at War. Why? – Because we face battles on many fronts. While so many are looking for social change, media has taken this and perpetuated people into subjugated groups, fighting for titles, names and labels all under a false guise of unity. Man has become conditioned to think that the largest threat to his existence lies outside himself.
From day one our psyche has been the product of social conditioning. Through the promotion of vanity, you feel lack in your physical appearance; the promotion of pharmaceuticals, you could be healthier; Costs on education, if you could afford it you could be smarter; door to door religious advocacy, if you are lost you can be connected. Our whole life has been based on a lack of, being without or fragmented with imperfection. That’s the human experience. Through being without, through having lack, many people yearn for a sense of belonging. While others have been forced to live within social conditions that have created isolation and alienation, the majority of all people still end up looking for a sense of belonging. A prison planet housing people in a large penitentiary or indoctrination camp, divided by groups, cultures, subcultures, beliefs, labels and titles. Each with individual systems to comply and conform to, to keep you within the boundaries of your category. With a new group comes new rules, beliefs, boundaries and a change in moral conviction being created every day. Human morality, idealism and principles can be questioned, pushed, cross-examined and changed, simply with the creation of a new group or label.
We have become so infatuated to march for a cause outside of ourselves that we begin to hold less boundaries in what we march for. People begin to blindly comply with the idealism of a group’s consensus, becoming complacent and throwing out all or any rational discussion if it threatens or falls outside the group they identify with. Just to feel a sense of belonging people blindly follow orders and stop questioning what they are following, who they are listening to or even if it gives them a slight feeling of doubt. This is all for the sense of belonging, this is all for the purpose of being “Accepted’. See simply belonging and having loyalty are two different things. You don’t have to build a bond through similar experiences to belong to something, you don’t have to share a personal kinship to anyone to simply belong. Belonging comes based on a title of self-identification. Why must one identify within a group? Because the person has felt alienation within themselves creating an uncomfortability within their own skin. People seek “Acceptance” over being “Respected”; a wise woman had said this to me.
Every group socially subjugated has sought equality through acceptance before any of us existed on this planet. When you truly look at it; “Respect” for your fellow man and woman is the only thing that can be “expected” within a “Social Collective”. It is impossible to change the mind of another human being, so it almost becomes impossible to seek “Acceptance” from someone else. Why? – Because Acceptance is only something you could ask of yourself. First accept who you are and allow others to respect it. If we had more individuals that practiced self-acceptance with intentions to aspire rather than ridicule, inspire rather than influence we would see real change. The real work is within you, because that’s where the final battle really is; the internal turmoil that resides within the mind of a human being. It’s not what the world on the outside chooses to think, it’s what you think about yourself.
Oneness of mind, feeling, etc., as among a number of persons; concord, harmony, or agreement.
It becomes difficult to practice a state of harmony among others with a lack of it within oneself; Unity has to be an action that begins within an individual. Unity within oneself starts with Self-Acceptance before it can be practiced within a movement. I feel if we can come to these understandings, we wouldn’t have to compromise ideas; coming to the lowest possible solution that doesn’t fully benefit any of the involved parties. We would be able to have comprehensive discussions creating new ideas that are evolutionary to what was initially being discussed. I close by saying anyone feeling to defend the acceptance of a single point of view, needs to reflect on why it’s so important for people to accept what you need to say in the first place. Why the need to debunk the beliefs of another to better comply with your own understanding. Reshape your thoughts, shed your limitations start anytime “Accept Yourself”.
